The Program - For Law Firms
This is a ten-week program open to first-year law students, split with 5 weeks at the in- house legal department of a tech company within the LiTD Collaborative, learning about one or more substantive areas of in-house practice and getting exposure to meaningful work; and 5-6 weeks as a summer associate with a law firm partnering with that tech company.

Benefits of the Program:
The benefits for participating law firms include:
- deeper client/firm relationships;
- access to exceptional talent from a wider array of law schools;
- access to the legal departments of the other participating companies; and
- the satisfaction that together, we are diversifying the pipeline of talent reaching top law firms, and making a positive change in the legal profession.
Law Firm Commitment:
- While the tech company collaborates and coordinates closely with the hiring partner/recruiting department of the partnering law firm, law firms ultimately defer to the tech company's final selection of which student to hire.
- The LiTD student would join the law firm’s normal summer associate class, working as a summer associate (and referred to as such) for half the summer, and would be seconded to the partnering tech company for the other half.
- If the LiTD summer associate's work product and performance over the summer would warrant an offer under the same evaluation criteria as the firm's other summer associates (adjusting expectations as appropriate for a 1L summer associate), the law firm is expected to extend an offer to the summer associate to join the firm the following summer.
- In addition to participating in the law firm's summer associate trainings and events, the LiTD summer associate would also be a part of the Law in Tech Diversity Collaborative summer program, replete with trainings, networking, and other events. We coordinate closely to ensure a fluid transition between law firm and in-house teams and to coordinate ability to attend the various events. Attorneys from participating law firms are invited to gather with the in-house attorneys to speak at or attend events.
